A reminder from the South Lewis Librarian, Mrs. Monks: Summer is a fabulous time to spend time with a great book (or a few of them). Make time to turn the pages of some of your favorites AND you can earn free books from Barnes & Noble. All students who will enter grades 1 - 6 in the fall and who read 8 books before August 31st, can earn a free book. Check out the following link dispatch.barnesandnoble.com to see how it's done. Don't let summer slip away without getting lost in the magical world of books.

The South Lewis Middle School Enrichment Program is getting WILD for the summer. On Wednesday, Haley Sylvan from Zoo New York introduced various Watertown zoo residents -- several live ones and some animal artifacts -- to the middle school students. Among the live guests were a Blue Tongued Skink, a Hedgehog, and Hissing Cockroaches from Madagascar. Ms. Sylvan also brought animal pelts, bones, and feathers for the students to see and touch. The students look forward to another visit later this month. Way to get WILD kids.

Congratulations to Elizabeth Marriott and Kiera Carmen who were named South Lewis High School's May Students of the Month. Both ninth graders, Liz and Kiera are brimming with good character and uphold the values that Falcons treasure the most: caring, diligent, motivated, and responsible. We look forward to seeing what the future holds for them. Until then... have a great summer, Liz and Kiera. We hope that you enjoyed your first year of high school!

On Tuesday, June 7, 2022, the 2021-2022 South Lewis Girls' Varsity Cross Country Team was honored by the Lewis County Boad of Legislators at a meeting that took place at the County Courthouse in Lowville. On November 13, 2021, the team won the New York State Class D Championship title in Chenango Valley. This dedicated group of remarkable athletes is worthy of our admiration. They run in rain and snow, train in stormy weather (and/or a pandemic), challenge their limits daily, compete with strength always, and, get this, have fun while doing it! Long may you run, ladies. We applaud you. Shown here with Superintendent Douglas Premo, Coach Jack Bernard, and Coach Michele Liendecker are the athletes (from left to right) Mallory Kraeger, Madison Rhubart, Brynn Bernard, Lexi Bernard, Grace Bailey, and Shelby Becraft.

Nothing runs like a Deere.... and these students know it! Megan Klossner, JP Cavanaugh, and the Sherman siblings - Ella & Carl - are the envy of all with their fine farm machinery in John Deere green.

It's a bird's-eye view from atop The South Lewis Falcon's Nest (a.k.a. "the school"). For the final day of Spirit Week, high school students were invited to participate in "Drive-Your-Tractor-to-School Day". Today is a celebration in true Falcon fashion and mode, and this parking lot (filled with farm machinery of all makes, colors, sizes, and functions) represents just one of the reasons we love our school and community. Thanks to all for keeping in focus what matters most - our students! Go Falcons.
