Kindness 101

Dear Friend of South Lewis CSD:

Each year, the South Lewis Central School District selects a theme that inspires and celebrates the work of our faculty, staff, and students. For the 2026-2027 school year, we are proud to launch our district theme: "South Lewis is One of a Kind - Where Kindness Matters!"

This initiative is designed to empower students and staff to recognize that even the smallest acts of kindness can make a

meaningful difference. Throughout the year, we will focus on the values of compassion, generosity, volunteerism, service, and community, helping students understand the positive impact they can have on the lives of others. As part of this initiative, teachers and students will have daily Kindness 101 lessons available for the entire school year. We will also have two symbolic "Call for Kindness" phone booths on campus where students, staff, parents, community members, and visitors can leave notes of encouragement, appreciation, and hope for others. In addition, our faculty and staff have had the opportunity to participate in a variety of community service projects, modeling the importance of giving back.

One of the highlights of our year will be our Kindness Challenges, designed to turn compassion into action. Through the generosity of our South Lewis community and friends, we hope to provide each of our approximately 65 homeroom classes with funding to complete a service project of their choosing. Guided by their teachers and staff, students will identify a need within our community or world, develop a plan, and carry out a project that gives back or "pays it forward."

These projects will provide authentic opportunities for students to collaborate, problem-solve, lead, and serve others. More importantly, they will demonstrate that every individual, regardless of age, has the ability to make a positive impact. By putting kindness into action, students will strengthen their connection to our schools, our communities, and the world they will one day help lead.

To make this vision a reality, we respectfully ask you to consider donating to support the South Lewis Kindness 101 Challenge. Our goal is to raise $6,500, allowing us to provide $100 to each of our approximately 65 homeroom classrooms from Universal Pre-K through Grade 12 to complete a student-led kindness project. 100% of every contribution will go directly to these projects, ensuring that every donated dollar is transformed into acts of kindness throughout our communities. If we are fortunate enough to collect greater than $6,500, those additional monies will go to a school service project of kindness.

As these efforts of kindness take shape throughout the course of the school year, we will share photos, stories, and project updates on the South Lewis Central School District website and our social media platforms so that our donors and community members can see firsthand the positive impact their generosity has made. We look forward to celebrating the creativity, compassion, and service demonstrated by our students.

Thank you for considering this opportunity to invest in our students and our community. Your generosity will help teach an important lesson-that kindness is not just something we talk about, but something we practice every day. Together, we can show our students that kindness is alive and well and that even the smallest act of kindness has the power to change someone's day, strengthen our community, and inspire others to do the same.

Sincerely,
Mr. Douglas Premo
Superintendent of Schools
