On Saturday, February 7th, the South Lewis boys and girls indoor track teams both placed 2nd in the team competition at the Class C sectionals!
The girls' team scored 73 points. Senior Shelby B. was the lone individual event winner in the pole vault with a height of 9 feet.
The 4x800 relay team of Felicity S., Shelby B., Lauryn H., and Asley L. won with a time of 11:06.91. Other place finishers were: Felcity 2nd in the 1500 (5:22.64), Zoey - 2nd in the pole vault (7-6), Haley - 2nd in the weight throw (37-8), Shelby- 2nd in the 55 hurdles (9.84), Asley- 3rd in the 3000 (11:48.37), Haley- shot put (30-5.5), 4x4 relay- 4th in 5:12.78, and 4x2 relay- 5th in 2:21.0, Arianna R.-5th in the triple jump (28-0), Tasia G.- 6th in the triple jump (25-8.75).
The boy's team scored 80 points. The 4x800 relay team of Dakota M., Matteo B., Logan P., and Nolan W. won the event with a time of 8:54.95. Other place finishers were: Nolan- 2nd in the 1000 (2:52.46), Matteo-3rd in the 1000 (2:52.57), Dakota-4th in 1000 (2:53.03), Logan- 3rd in the 3200 (10:58.37), Michael- 4th in 3200 (11:01.05), Matteo- 2nd in the 600 (1:31.46), Nolan-3rd in the 600 (1:33.44), Dakota-4th in the 600 (1:34.58), Michael- 5th in the 1600 (5:11.41), Draven- 2nd in the pole vault (9-0) and 5th in the 300 (39.72), 4x4 relay was 2nd in 4:04, and the 4x2 relay team was 4th in 1:52.79.
The 4x8 relay teams for both teams, along with Shelby -pole vault, Zoey - pole vault, and Haley in the throws, all qualified for the state qualifier, which takes place on Wednesday.
This past regular season, three new school records were set. Seventh grader Lauryn jumped 4-6 in the high jump for a new record, sophomore Kal C. in the shot put with a distance of 33-10.25, and Draven P. in the 400 meters with a time of 55.47.
