South Lewis Places at NYSPHSAA

Saturday, November 11th was another memorable day for South Lewis cross country.  The boys' and girls' teams competed at VVS in the New York State Championships and brought home some hardware.  The girls won their 2nd state team title in the last 3 years. It was the 3rd title overall with titles in 2017, 2021, and 2023.  The boy's team finished 2nd overall with a remarkable run and also took home a state plaque.

The girl's team was led by Brynn B. who won her 3rd consecutive individual state title with a new personal best time on the VVS course in 18:56 which was the 15th fastest time of the day. The team scored 53 points to Delhi/South Kortright's 57.  The Falcons did the damage up front with Mallory K. placing 9th with a time of 20:17.5 and Felicity S. placing 30th in 21:19.3. Mallory and Felicity have performed great all-season and did the same on Saturday. South Lewis' Grace B. placed 45th in 21:54.6 and Hadassah S. placed 60th in 22:52.8 to complete the scoring for the Falcons.  Hadassah passed three runners in the final 400 meters which helped the Falcons win the race.  Zoey B. was 73rd in 23:38.4 and Summer V. was 84th in 24:37.9. For the second time in three years, the South Lewis girls' cross-country team has won the individual title, the team title, and the intersectional title. Plus, Brynn was the Section III Sportsmanship winner for Girls Class D.
The boy's team raced after the girls and didn't disappoint.  The Falcons boys placed 2nd overall with 58 points, 20 behind Pine Plains.  A great team effort was turned by the boys and most ran personal bests.  Collin S. led the Falcons with a 3rd place overall finish and a time of 16:22.5 which was a personal best on the course and the 18th fast time of the day.  MacCoy M. had his best race of the season and ran a new personal best time of 16:52.9 and placed 13th.  His time was a new personal best for 5K too. Aiden S. placed 29th in 17:38.1, Michael M. placed 45th in 18:22.6, Dakota M. placed 46th in 18:25.6, and Matteo B. placed 63rd in 18:54.7.  The boys also won the intersectional title this year. It was a great day for South Lewis cross-country with a first and second-place team finish.

Brynn, Collin, and MacCoy all qualified for the Federation Championships this coming weekend in Wappingers Falls.  MacCoy will be the only one competing as Brynn and Collin will be taking the weekend off in preparation for both the Foot Locker and Nike Cross-Country Championships. Best of luck to all!
