SEX OFFENDER REGISTRATION ACT (SORA): Individuals convicted of sexual offenses may reside within our school district. Registered sex offenders in New York State are classified by the risk of re-offense. A court determines whether an offender is a level 1 (low risk), 2 (moderate risk), or 3 (high risk). There are three ways to obtain information about sex offenders in New York State:
- You can call 1-800-262-3257 to determine if someone is on the Registry.
- You can access the Subdirectory of Level 3 Sex Offenders on the website www.criminaljustice.state.ny.us. Click the Offices link, then click the Sex Offender Registry link, then click the Search for Level 3 Offenders link. The purpose of this website is to provide an overview of the sex offender registration law and how the public can obtain information about sex offenders.
- You can go to your local law enforcement agency to view a copy of the Subdirectory of Level 3 Sex Offenders.
