SEX OFFENDER REGISTRY

SEX OFFENDER REGISTRATION ACT (SORA): Individuals convicted of sexual offenses may reside within our school district. Registered sex offenders in New York State are classified by the risk of re-offense. A court determines whether an offender is a level 1 (low risk), 2 (moderate risk), or 3 (high risk). There are three ways to obtain information about sex offenders in New York State:

  1. You can call 1-800-262-3257 to determine if someone is on the Registry.

  2. You can access the Subdirectory of Level 3 Sex Offenders on the website www.criminaljustice.state.ny.us. Click the Offices link, then click the Sex Offender Registry link, then click the Search for Level 3 Offenders link. The purpose of this website is to provide an overview of the sex offender registration law and how the public can obtain information about sex offenders.

  3. You can go to your local law enforcement agency to view a copy of the Subdirectory of Level 3 Sex Offenders.
