Who is Mr. Comet? |
My name is Michael Comet and I am the Biology/Living Environment teacher at South Lewis High School in Turin, NY. I have been employed by the district since October of 1993. I am a graduate of Jefferson Community College (A.A.S. in Math/Science - Class of 1990), the State University of New York at Oswego (B.S. I grew up in and around Watertown, NY - a small city nestled at a crossroads of the Adirondack Mountains, Lake Ontario, and the Tug Hill Plateau in upstate NY. My love of the outdoors, biology, and making people think prompted me to become a teacher (although during high school I also tossed around being a priest and a pilot). However, I do not like heights so piloting was out of the question. What precluded me from becoming a priest I will never know, but my current walk of life is fantastic and I would not trade it for anything. I live in Lowville, NY with my wife Mary and my three-year old son Noah (picture above) and currently "enjoy" renovating my house (yeah, right). I have taught at South Lewis since the autumn of 1993 and work very closely with the SL Agriscience department and my good friend that runs the program. Try as I might, I am one of those people that tries to change all the time, sometimes to the chagrin of my students. My students SEEM to like me, but that is subject to change depending on their most recent quiz. In my spare time, I enjoy SCUBA diving, fishing, hunting, and helping other people tear things apart at their houses (wherein the commonly heard quote is "Hey, I don't have to pay for that, right?"). In addition, I teach Sportsman Education (hunter safety) and roam the backroads of this beautiful area taking pictures of wildlife and natural phenomena (another way of saying I take pictures of things that other people think are weird) at what some consider ridiculous hours of the morning. Lastly, I have heard them all... "You mean like the thing in the sky??" YES... "You mean like the cleanser?" YES... You got it right, that's how the last name is spelled and I have heard just about every joke out there!!!! But enough about me - shouldn't you be studying? |
